Germany-based airline Lufthansa understand that business travelers spend a lot of time in the air, and represent a significant chunk of the airline business. To win that valuable repeat business, Lufthansa offers a step up on economy class; a business class with more perks and better seats for passengers willing to shell out a bit more than average without going full luxury.

If you plan on flying Lufthansa soon, take a look at this comparison of Business vs. First class.

Visual Differences Between Lufthansa Business & First Class

Seats

Business Class VS First Class on Lufthansa Airlines

Lufthansa Business Class is a popular option for people who spend a lot of time traveling and require extra comfort. It is a more expensive option than economy seats, but considerably less costly than luxury first class.

Lufthansa’s business class offers upgraded meals, extra legroom and seat width, a wide range of entertainment options, WiFi, noise-cancelling headphones, and lay-flat seats for comfortable sleeping on long flights. While it is far more comfortable than economy, the overall experience does not offer quite the same level of luxury and service in first class.

Lufthansa Airlines Booking Categories

Business class is divided into three booking categories. Each is entitled to the same seating, preflight and inflight amenities, and same luggage allowance. The primary difference is in booking flexibility, refunds, and mileage upgrades:

Lufthansa Business Basic

  • Lowest cost
  • Sells out first
  • Not available on all flights
  • No mileage upgrades
  • No cancellation refunds
  • Booking change with a sizeable fee

Lufthansa Business Basic Plus

  • Mid-range cost
  • No mileage upgrades
  • Refunds with fee and fare difference
  • Booking change with sizeable fee

Lufthansa Business Flex

  • Highest cost
  • Mileage upgrades permitted
  • Refunds and fare difference, no fee
  • Booking changes with fare difference

First class offers wider seats, with seating arranged for maximum privacy.  On each side, seats are angled toward the windows, with widely spaced rows of dual seats in the center. Lay flat seats are longer and more richly appointed.

First class passengers enjoy the same entertainment perks as Business Class passengers, with additional meal choices, ala cart service, and dedicated attendants serving very few passengers.

Lufthansa Flyer Perks

Lufthansa First Class – Preflight

Lufthansa first class experience begins when you pull up to the terminal. You’ll check in at a special desk while a valet takes your car. Your personal assistant will guide you to the First Class Lounge, where you may enjoy the cigar bar, have a gourmet meal, rest up in an easy chair, or get some work done in their business office. You may invite a companion, your spouse, and your children to join you in the lounge, even if they are not flying. You can even bring your pet – on a leash or in a carrier.

When it’s time to board at Lufthansa hubs with dedicated first class terminals, a limousine delivers you to your aircraft.

Lufthansa Airway Seats

Business class Lufthansa aircraft seats have about twice the legroom available in economy class seats, with seats about 3 inches wider than economy, averaging 20 to 20.5 inches wide.

First class Lufthansa aircraft seats have about 16 extra inches of legroom over Business Class seating  and 31 inch seat width.

Seat width is the distance from armrest to armrest, and 20 inches is a bit roomier than average economy class, which run 17 to 18.5 inches.

Lufthansa offers open suites in first class. That means the seats are spaced and angled for maximum privacy without barriers.  Both first class and business class seats lay flat for comfortable sleeping and are equipped with USB ports for charging WiFi devices.

Lufthansa Flight Menus

First class offers a wide variety of wines. Menus change frequently and feature regional cuisines from your destination. In addition to full dining service, passengers may order a la carte items and snacks at any time during their flight. Food is served on an elegantly appointed table with fine bone china and crystal wine glasses. Cognac is offered after dinner.

First class meals include a selection of caviar, cheese plates, and other small plate selections to whet your appetite. The appetizer course is followed by soup and salad, the entree, and, of course, dessert.

Menus are crafted by master chefs from top hotels in your destination country. If you were flying to China, for example, your menu would be created by Executive Chef Xiaosheng Gao from Shanghai’s luxury Shangri-La Pudong Hotel.

Business class passengers enjoy a less elaborate meal with similar entree selections, served on fine china with accompanying wines. While there is a choice of meals, the ala carte on demand menu is not available, and luxury items such as caviar are not included.
